Northland police are searching for a man who fled in a car after a firearm was allegedly pointed at another vehicle north of Kaikohe.

Police were called by a member of the public who reported the sighting of the firearm at Broadwood, north of Kaikohe, about 12.30pm today.

The Armed Offenders Squad are on their way to the incident. It is the third AOS callout in Northland in less than a week. It follows a massive manhunt for Joshua Kite in Kaiwaka on Friday and comes after armed police searched for Mark Andrew Fletcher who fled police into rural bush and farmland in Whakapara on Thursday.

Cordons are in place at the State Highway One intersection of Te Pua Rd, and at the end of that road on State Highway 12 near Kaikohe.

The car fled the scene at Broadwood and was found abandoned on Te Pua Rd.

Three males decamped from the car and fled into farmland near the road. A female and two of the males have been located and arrested.

A search is now underway for one male.

The incident is not related to the separate searches underway for Joshua Kite or Mark Fletcher.
