A tourist couple was attacked by a pair of teenagers, one armed with a hammer, in Northland yesterday.
The French visitors were asleep in their Toyota Previa van on Totara St in Dargaville at about 1am when they were awoken by two men, aged 18 and 19.
The men demanded money before both punched one of the tourists, causing a moderate injury to his face.
Cash was taken before the two men fled on foot.
A police dog tracked the pair down and they were arrested.
Police said the victims were traumatised but remained in relatively good spirits, and planned to continue their holiday.
The attackers will appear in the Whangarei District Court on aggravated robbery and cannabis-related charges.
The stolen cash was recovered, but the hammer hasn't been found.
