A driver who allegedly failed to stop for police collided with another motorist before coming to a stop outside a house in Whangarei this morning.
The pursuit started about 10am and took police through Kensington and Otangarei streets before ending at the intersection of Kensington Av and Western Hills Drv.
Police Inspector Wayne Ewers said it appeared the fleeing car had collided with a northbound vehicle at the intersection. The male driver of the northbound car was trapped and Whangarei firefighters were called to cut him free. He was taken to hospital by St John ambulance in a stable condition.
The fleeing vehicle went across the intersection and stopped near the front door of a house. Officers arrested a man and he was taken to Whangarei police station for further questioning.
There are major roadworks at the intersection with a number of workers on site.
None of the road workers were injured.
