Police are calling for witnesses to a fatal crash in the hope they can determine the cause.
Sheryl Reynard-Smith, 32, from Te Kopuru, died in a collision on State Highway 14 on Tuesday, near the intersection with Kara Rd.
Mrs Reynard-Smith was driving one of two vehicles which collided in heavy rain about 4.40pm. The other driver, a 26-year-old, was treated for a broken ankle, cuts and bruises.
Northland police highway patrol Sergeant Lance Goulsbro said police were keen to talk to witnesses.
"At this stage we're not 100 per cent sure what happened and we still have to speak to the other driver," he said.
The fatal crash followed a head-on collision on SH10, just south of Kaeo, at the junction with Waiare Rd, about 12.30pm on Tuesday which seriously injured four people, including members of a wedding party.
Meanwhile, friends and family of a Kerikeri man who died in a crash in Moerewa last month will gather at the Turner Centre on Monday to celebrate his life. Andrew Bell, 54, was driving a gardening centre truck on State Highway 1 at 2.40am on February 21 when it was involved in a collision with a late model Mercedes-Benz coming out of Moerewa's Nisbet St.
Mr Bell died at the scene. His two passengers, understood to be his wife and his 19-year-old daughter, were taken to Whangarei Hospital, one in a serious condition.
The police probe is ongoing.
