Northtec has announced fee-free courses for people wanting to jump-start their careers.
Most of the courses available are for a six-month period of study and aim to give students a chance at a new career path or help those who want to update their skill-set.
Enrolment is open now, with NorthTec urging people to apply as soon as possible with some courses beginning this week. Classes are available at the Whangarei campus as well as other learning centres in the Northland area.
Students can choose from more than a dozen courses, all fee-free, ranging from level one and two foundation courses, administration or business to trades skills like painting, construction, or forestry.
In the past, similar courses have given people the preparation they needed to get back into the work force.
"This course gave heaps of opportunities because employers come here looking for good employees," former NorthTec mechanical engineering student Jonathon Sole said.
Some of the courses also offer free equipment, such as tools for construction.
Northtec's fee-free courses come on the heels of last year's announcement that the government would make all level one and two foundation courses fee-free to those aged 24 and under, starting this year.
