Mangakahia Area School has been producing clean, green energy for the school and reducing its power bill since its inclusion in the Genesis Energy Schoolgen programme.
The school was provided with two kilowatt solar panels, which provide a portion of its electricity as well as teaching the pupils about renewable energy.
Pupils can log on to an interactive website that explains how much energy is being produced from the solar panels.
Teachers access resources that teach the pupils about electricity generation, solar energy, photovoltaic systems and energy efficiency, linked with national curriculum.
Pupils staged drama production to show their school community the role the solar panels play in the school, and all the things they have learned.
The panels fit the school's coveted status as a green-gold EnviroSchool.
Mangakahia Area School is the 47th school in the Schoolgen programme across the country. Whangarei Heads School has also been part of the programme since June.
