A man accused of murder after the body of a woman was found beneath a Whangarei bridge last month has been further remanded in custody.
Jimmy Peter Akuhata, 29, of the Regent, in central Whangarei, appeared in Whangarei District Court yesterday charged with the murder of 21-year-old Ashlee Louise Anne Edwards, mother of two.
Ms Edwards' body was found beneath a bridge on Tarewa Rd in the early hours of July 27.
No plea was entered and bail was not sought during Akuhata's appearance yesterday and he was remanded in custody until September 28, when the case will be called again.
A large number of Ms Edwards' family and friends, who had travelled from the mid north area, were in the court for the appearance yesterday.
