The Green Party is hoping former MP Laila Harre and current MP David Clendon will help gather enough Whangarei signatures to tip a Keep Our Assets roadshow petition over the 100,000 mark.
Former Alliance Party MP and Cabinet minister, now Green labour issues director, Ms Harre will be in town helping with the signature gathering today and tomorrow. Also in town selling the no-sale message at the Whangarei Growers' Market tomorrow will be Mr Clendon.
The Greens and the petition will take a stand at the Old Library Market tomorrow evening and hope to do a "pub crawl" afterwards. The roadshow will be at the growers' market from 7.30 to 10am, after which it will move to the Cameron St Mall.
The petition has attracted 95,000 signatures since the roadshow began touring North Island cities and towns in June.
Mr Clendon, who has strong Northland links through his Ngapuhi and Te Roroa iwi affiliations, has been with the Green Party since 1990 and an MP since 2009. He is a former Sustainable Business Network adviser who has had a long involvement with environmental protection groups.
