Whangarei police are concerned about the content of a letter delivered to Northland homes predicting the CIA will "blow up the World Cup finals".
However, the man behind the letter, James Bradley, 21, of Kaitaia, said he was just trying to warn New Zealanders before World War III began. He has hand delivered about 1000 letters since Tuesday.
The letter, which also urges Maori to go on strike on Monday to warn New Zealand about the risk to Rugby World Cup, and to begin "a revolution to overthrow our evil government" for supporting the revolution against Libyan leader Colonel Gaddafi.
"The Pacific Islanders, Indians and Muslims will support the Maori in their revolution because they have also struggled against colonialism," it says.
The letter says Gaddafi is a revolutionary hero, who redistributed wealth to the needy, reduced the cost of petrol and built homes for thousands of disadvantaged. Libya was a beacon of the world of revolution because it was owned by the people and is a threat, it says.
Police spokeswoman Sarah Kennett said police were made aware of the letter yesterday after it was distributed in the Raumanga area.
"We are taking it seriously and we are making inquiries," she said.
Mr Bradley, originally from South Africa, said he had delivered the letters in Kaitaia and Kaikohe and was still distributing them near Whangarei.
