Entries for the ninth annual Top Energy Tall Poppy Business Awards close 5pm on July 29. The awards are open to businesses located within Top Energy's electricity network through the mid and Far North. The categories are tourism and hospitality, service, retail, manufacturing, building/construction, trust-charity or not-for-profit, and emerging business. The judges' special award will be presented to an entrant who has demonstrated an outstanding feature of business excellence. Award winners will be announced at the Top Energy Tall Poppy Business Awards 2011 dinner at the Copthorne, Waitangi, on October 1. Award entries can be obtained from www.topenergy.co.nz under the sponsorship section, from any Top Energy depot or by contacting Belinda Peddie on 09 407 0603.

The event of the year for book lovers happens at Forum North's Exhibition Hall this weekend. It's the annual Zonta Clubs of Whangarei and Hatea book fair. This year about 50,000 books will be on sale. The hours are 7am-5pm Saturday, and 9am-3pm Sunday and there will be plenty of business-related books.
