A Kaikohe man has been jailed for five months on his 10th drink-driving conviction.
Peter Frederick McDonald, 65, appeared in the Kaikohe District Court on charges of drink driving and driving while disqualified.
He was convicted of drink driving in the same court in January 2008 and was disqualified from holding or obtaining a driver's licence for two years, commencing on June 24, 2008.
However, he was again caught behind the wheel in Kaikohe on December 12, 2009.
A breath test revealed he had 804 micrograms of alcohol per litre of breath.
In explanation, he said he had drunk "quite a lot" of beer the day before driving.
He's been disqualified from holding or obtaining a driver's licence indefinitely.
