FOUR police positions at the Dargaville police station will become vacant at the end of the month following the departure of Senior Sergeant Irwin Van Pelt, Sergeant Bevan Jones, Detective Constable Clinton Drake and Constable Mark Brown.
Mr Van Pelt, who is retiring at the end of the month, is looking forward to the challenges of developing the lifestyle property he and his wife own in Maungaturoto. He was appointed to the Dargaville station 19 months ago.
Dargaville-born and raised Mr Jones moved with his wife and family to Ashburton last week. He has been appointed to the Highway Patrol unit in Canterbury and had policed in the Whangarei and Dargaville area for several years.
After almost two years as the Ruawai Community Constable, Mr Drake has taken up a position as a detective in Auckland.
He and his family have enjoyed their time living in Ruawai and now look forward to the challenges of the city.
Constable Willie Paniora has been appointed as the relief community constable at the Ruawai station following Mr Drake's departure two weeks ago. Born and raised in Dargaville, Mr Paniora joined the police force 15 months ago after 12 years as a forestry worker in the Waikato.
Mr Brown has policed in Dargaville for the past 20 months and is now joining the Strategic Traffic Unit in Whangarei.
Mr Van Pelt said his replacement was likely to be confirmed this week, while the other positions would be filled in the near future. The Dargaville Police Station has 16 officers.
