A great deal of work, much of which isn't visible, has been done to make Kaitaia's Te Hiku Sports Hub a reality.
The transformation of Kaitaia's Te Hiku Sports Hub from a concept to a design to a reality has taken a major step forward with the appointment of former Kaitaia bank manager Richard Dickinson as part-time project manager.
Committee member Alan Simkins said Dickinson's appointment had galvanised the project, whilethe imminent forming of a board of governance would provide further impetus.
"Sport Northland recommended that the existing committee be replaced with a board of governance, which would provide the expertise needed for the next phase," Simkins said.
Sport Northland would help organise the process, with public advertising for potential candidates, ideally local, to begin in the coming weeks.
The existing committee would effectively fire itself, Dickinson said, but would be expanded to include sporting code and Sport Northland representatives to serve the board of governance in an advisory role, with one vote.
Simkins said the board of governance would remain in control of the project to the point where funding was approved. At that stage the focus would shift to determining how the hub would become an operational facility.
The next phase, however, would focus on detailed planning, design and costings, a process in which Simkins said Sport Northland would make an invaluable contribution.
