Patrice Schaumkell says it's time for her next adventure.
The owner of what is believed to be the only large costume hire business north of Auckland is moving on and has placed her business, Incognito Fancy Dress Costume Hire, on the market.
Her enterprise has been in the Arnold Franks building on Lower Cameron St for the past six years. It was previously located in Grant St, Kamo, where she had been operating for five years.
Ms Schaumkell, who moved to Whangarei from Auckland, says the original owner started the venture as a home-based operation before eventually moving to the Grant St location and calling it Incognito Fancy Dress. They ran it for 10 years.
Incognito stocks more than 2000 unique costumes, most professionally made by the original owner, a retired master seamstress.
"I feel that after owning and operating this fascinating business for 11 years it's time for new adventures," she said.
Ms Schaumkell says there have been many special experiences and highlights she will treasure from her time owning Incognito, from local schools utilising the authentic-looking period costumes for their plays and concerts to regular customers looking for the right outfit for a themed event.
"I've met an interesting and broad range of locals who have become regular customers such as firemen, teachers, police and councillors," she said.
"It is a fun business to be part of as customers are always looking forward to partying which makes it a great atmosphere to work in."
