We've had the Hero parade - now it's time for Auckland to show its multicultural roots.
And if there's one event at today's Pasifika Festival that embraces the Queen City's cultural diversity, it must be the play Popo the Fairy.
Aimed at 5-year-olds, the 13-minute play is staged in Samoan, Maori, English and Fairy language - an eclectic mix that producer Makerita Urale says the little ones should still be able to understand.
Organisers are expecting visitors from as far as the United States to watch Popo the Fairy and the many other Pacific Island plays, dance acts and music groups on the festival's four main stages.
The free festival is now in its ninth year, and is likely to draw more than 100,000 people to Western Springs between 9 am and 6 pm.
Free parking will be available at Unitec on Carrington Rd, Mt Albert, with a shuttle bus. The southbound motorway offramp at Western Springs will be closed between 8 am and 5 pm.
