The victim of a night-long attack has told the High Court in Napier that he and another man were verbally, physically and sexually abused during their ordeal.
The young man, whose name was suppressed by Justice Gendall, was watched over by two armed, plain-clothes police officers as he gave evidence yesterday during the trial of five Hastings men.
Wallace John Wamoana, 25, unemployed, his brother, Debden Osbourne Wamoana, 18, unemployed, Daniel Alan Pace, 22, labourer, David Rawiri Pouaka, 24, unemployed, and Bryan Francis Smith, 26, farm manager, face eight charges of kidnapping, aggravated robbery, attempted aggravated robbery, sexual violation by unlawful sexual connection and intentionally injuring the two complainants on May 30 last year.
Smith is charged only with the attempted aggravated robbery and kidnapping of one of the complainants.
Debden Wamoana and Pace are charged with sexual violation. They, Pouaka and Wallace Wamoana face the kidnapping, robbery and injuring charges.
