Perhaps Kristen Stewart hasn't driven the proverbial wooden stake through Robert Pattinson's heart and shattered their relationship after all.

Multiple outlets are reporting that although things went south between the Twilight twosome after Stewart, 22, admitted she cheated on Pattinson with her married Snow White and the Huntsman director Rupert Sanders, the actors have indeed been spending time together in secret.

According to People magazine, the pair reunited in Los Angeles last weekend, and a source who spoke with the mag says Pattinson's friends "think they'll be a couple again."

While Pattinson was left devastated after Stewart's dalliance with the director, moving on is "easier said than done...and clearly harder than expected," a second source told the mag.

The latest issue of Us Weekly also claims that after two months of heartbreak, Pattinson, 26, finally relented and agreed to meet with Stewart.

"They're working it out," the mag quotes a source as saying, adding, "he's still in love with her."

Meanwhile, another source tells E! News that Pattinson and Stewart recently met up at two undisclosed locations.

Suffice to say, word of a reported reunion has set the rumour mill spinning, rallying hope that a romantic reconciliation is on the cards for the pair.

But while it's easy to assume that rehabilitating their romance was a burning topic during their clandestine tête-à-têtes, it's not outside the realms of possibility that their face time was strictly business. They do have a certain movie to promote after all.

And if RadarOnline's report rings true, Pattinson and Stewart had the smooth-running of promotion for the final Twilight movie high on the agenda during their meetings.

The webloid claims that the pair are "putting on a united front" as they gear up for the press blitz surrounding the release of the vampire flick, for the sake of their Twilight fans.

"Rob and Kristen are simply making sure that the promotional tour for the final Twilight movie goes as smoothly as possible," said a source.

"They don't want their personal lives interfering with work and by appearing like they have kissed and made up it will seem that all is fine between the pair."

Radar also claims that Pattinson is keeping Stewart in the "friend zone" for the time being, until he decides whether to reconcile.

"Both Rob and Kristen are consummate professionals when it comes to their careers and are very aware that the Twilight movies and fans put them on the map. They have no intention of letting them down by not doing any press interviews for the new film," added the source.

"Of course, there will be some trepidation, but this is about work not about whether they are getting back together or not. Robert is still unsure about Kristen; he feels more comfortable having her as a friend for the foreseeable future.

"Only time will tell if he takes her back further down the road," the insider concluded.

Speculation has been rife over what the promotion of the movie will be like. But it won't be a trainwreck, according to Stewart.

The starlet, making her first post-cheating scandal public appearance at the Toronto International Film Festival earlier this month, told the Associated Press that hitting the red carpet with Pattinson by her side won't be a problem for her.

"We're going to be fine," Stewart said. "We're totally fine."

Stewart suffered a widespread public backlash in July after she admitted cheating on Pattinson with Sanders.

"I'm deeply sorry for the hurt and embarrassment I've caused to those close to me and everyone this has affected," the actress said in a statement at the time.

"This momentary indiscretion has jeopardised the most important thing in my life, the person I love and respect the most, Rob," Stewart continued. "I love him, I love him, I'm so sorry."

While Sanders told People magazine: "I am utterly distraught about the pain I have caused my family. My beautiful wife and heavenly children are all I have in this world.

"I love them with all my heart. I am praying that we can get through this together."

Sanders, 41, is married to British Vogue model Liberty Ross, 33. They have two children together.

The reunion reports build on claims made earlier this week by British tabloid The Sun, which claimed that the pair were looking to get back together.

"They pretty much decided they couldn't live without each other," a source told the paper. "Kristen poured her heart out to Robert and told him it was a one-off and a mistake."

"Rob sees it as Kristen made a really stupid mistake," the source continued. "After a lot of long tearful talks, they've worked it out.

According to the report, the pair are moving into a secluded Los Angeles home together.

Stewart and Pattinson were last seen together at the Teen Choice Awards in July - two days before pictures emerged of a "steamy rendezvous" between the actress and Sanders.

Reps for Stewart and Pattinson have not responded to the reunion reports.

As for the state of their relationship, Gossip Cop reports that the pair "have been speaking again", adding that they are "in a more comfortable place than they were weeks ago".

Chimed a source close to the pair, "Time will tell."

Meanwhile, Stewart hits up the latest issue of Germany's Glamour magazine and dishes that she would have "turned mad" if she hadn't been able to take on other projects while working on the Twilight franchise.

"I lived in the Twilight world for about four years - that's a very long time that demands a lot of patience on your part," she told the mag (via The Press Association).

"Thank God, I had the opportunity to do smaller movies like The Runaways, Welcome To The Rileys and On The Road in between. Otherwise I'd probably have turned mad."

Stewart also said she doesn't get caught up in the hype surrounding the movies.

"You can't let this whole circus irritate you," she continued. "I will always have good memories about Twilight, and I had no clue what would happen when the first movie came into the theatres.

"I took the role because I love movies. Of course movies are just entertainment, but to many people particular films mean so much more. I'm one of these people.

"Movies can tell you something about life, they can help you understand it better, they can awaken your interest, or be the reason why you question certain things. They can be f***ing important."

And she doesn't stop there.

Another interview excerpt, unearthed by Extra, reveals that Stewart has no "interest" in fronting make-up campaigns.

"I would never work with people who aren't really creative and aren't committed to what they do," she told Glamour. "Unfortunately, there are a lot of those people out there, they are f**king everywhere, and they try to suck the soul out of you."

She added, "For example, I would never do a makeup campaign, even though the [final] photos with me would probably look good. Thank you, but it doesn't interest me."
