It's official: Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux are engaged!
"Justin Theroux had an amazing birthday on Friday, receiving an extraordinary gift when his girlfriend, Jennifer Aniston, accepted his proposal of marriage," a rep for Theroux said in a statement issued to People.com.
Aniston's rep also confirmed to The Huffington Post that the actress is engaged.
Aniston, 43, and Theroux, 41, began dating in May 2011 after they met on the set of the movie Wanderlust.
"He's a protector, for sure," she told the May issue of Marie Claire. "He's just a good human being, and so funny."
"Having experienced everything you don't want in a partner over time, it starts to narrow down to what you actually do want," the actress told InStyle magazine earlier this year. "As I get older, I realise what qualities are important in love and what suits me. And what I won't settle for."
The erstwhile Friends star was previously married to Brad Pitt from 2000 to 2005. This will be the first marriage for Theroux.
Before dating Aniston, Iron Man 2 scribe Theroux was in a longtime relationship with costume designer Heidi Bivens.
The engagement news follows a recent report claiming the pair had split, allegedly because Aniston wasn't ready to commit.
Aniston's rep trashed the separation reports, telling Wonderwall, "It's once again just another fabrication to sell magazines and has no relationship to reality."
Although there's been no word on whether a wedding date had been set, recent gossip suggested that Aniston and her man will tie the knot in Greece later this year.
Scandal sheet TMZ boomed back in April that Aniston was spotted scouting for suitable wedding locations in Crete.
The net was buzzing with speculation on Friday that Pitt and his partner of seven years, Angelina Jolie, would be tying the knot in their luxury Chateau Miraval estate in the South of France over the weekend.
Britain's The Sun newspaper reported that Pitt was throwing a bash for his parents' 50th wedding anniversary, but speculated that family and friends were actually gathereing to witness the Fight Club star's wedding.
A source told the newspaper: "Brad flew in to oversee preparations but they're all here now. They say it's for Jane and Bill, but some think this could be it. Even Angelina's private jeweller is here."
But multiple sources told People that no wedding took place over the weekend.
Officials also denied that a wedding ceremony was on the cards.
"Under French law couples have to get married at the town hall," said Patrick Mareschi, the deputy culture secretary of Correns. "Unlike with a religious wedding, there's no way a couple can hold a civil ceremony at their own home."
X17Online also sent a shutterbug to the location, and reported that no wedding preparations were in the works.
"There are NO security guards, NO workers, NO planners - NOTHING at the property. As I drove around, checking out the scene from the street below the private hillside, I saw nothing out of the ordinary. It was quiet, just like the sleepy village of Correns next to it," said the agency's snapper.
But wait, there's more...
Mickael Latz, mayor of the nearby village of Correns, has reportedly dished to the Sunday Express that it is "more likely" the wedding will take place next Saturday.
"It's a far more likely date," he's quoted as saying. "There are no plans for a civil wedding in Correns this weekend."
Pitt and Jolie announced their engagement in April.
