Bret McKenzie has returned to New Zealand after his Academy Awards success, and says the past few days have been "surreal".
McKenzie, who won the Oscar award for Best Original Song for Man Or Muppet from The Muppets, landed in Wellington this morning, clutching his trophy.
"Here you go, this is what you want to see, engraved and all," a tired McKenzie declared to a TV3 reporter.
Asked how he had celebrated his win, McKenzie said he had been partying with "ridiculous celebrities".
"Vanity Fair have this big after-party. There's lots of people from the awards and some fairly ridiculous celebrities, like the Princess of Monaco.
"Buzz Aldrin, I hung out with Buzz Aldrin .... It feels very surreal.
McKenzie said he was back in New Zealand for a month or so to "chill out".
He planned to swim in Lyall Bay.
