A new trailer for the highly anticipated sequel to Sione's Wedding has debuted online.
Sione's Wedding 2: Unfinished Business is the follow-up to one of the most successful Kiwi comedies of all time.
It finished filming in May and is due to hit cinemas on January 19.
It reunites the original cast - Oscar Kightley, Shimpal Lelisi, Robbie Magasiva and Iaheto Ah Hi - in a plot that suggests the boys are set for another mission involving hijinks, misadventures and possibly a funeral.
The new trailer shows the quartet are given a mission by their minister to find someone called 'Paul'.
"Our mission is to find one Samoan in the biggest Polynesian city in the world," says one of the characters.
Audiences loved the first Sione's Wedding, packing out cinemas in 2006 for the biggest opening weekend of any New Zealand film. It also did well on DVD, and more than 1.2 million Kiwis have watched it on free-to-air television.
Based around four friends who created havoc with their party-boy attitudes, early rumours suggest the sequel will live up to expectations.
Location assistant Damion Nathan said fans would not be disappointed.
"The boys are back. It's such a fun gig to work on."
The sequel was written by James Griffin and Kightley, who co-wrote Sione's Wedding together. It is the first feature film for director Simon Bennett, whose television credits include Outrageous Fortune.
It is the first time a New Zealand film has spawned an original sequel.
