Malcolm Crowe (Bruce Willis), a psychologist, is shot in his home by an intruder, a former patient who believes he was wrongly treated. The man then shoots himself. A few months later Crowe takes on a boy named
Cole Sear (Haley Joel Osment) who has similar problems to the earlier patient.
Yep, Cole sees things adults don't: "I see dead people. They want me to do things for them." The doctor believes he can heal himself by getting this case right, though he has his own problems in his marriage.
Very good performances from Willis, who doesn't play up or play down to his young co-star; a staggering, Oscar-nominated outing from Osment; and an ending that will catch you out and leave you wondering: "Why didn't I see that coming?"
