From the moment she stepped out alongside Prince Harry, Meghan Markle's dress sense has attracted attention.

From the ripped jeans she wore when she accompanied Harry at the Invictus Games to a black mesh couture gown, critiqued as a daring and expensive choice for the couple's official engagement photos, Markle has been quick to assert her style as chic, unique and slightly undone.

And while her engagement dress was revealed to cost a whopping $109,000, it's against royal protocol to accept free clothing - so who's actually fitting the bill for the royal-to-be's enviable wardrobe?

Prince Harry and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge receive expenses from Prince Charles's $38 million Duchy of Cornwall income.

Last year the trio reportedly spent $6.5 million of that on salaries, their wardrobes and business-related expenses. Additionally, the princes earn $633,000 per annum from their late mother Princess Diana's $42 million estate.

But Markle is not entitled to receive anything from the parental funding pot until she's officially married into the family. So until then she's fitting the bill for her wardrobe herself.

However, with an estimated net worth of $6.7 million, it would appear she can comfortably fund her fashion habit for now.
