It was an afternoon full of emotion for 11-year-old Georgia Sutherland as she bravely had her long, blond hair shaved off for charity.
Georgia and her aunty Missy Spence had locks lopped to raise money for Shave For A Cure.
It's a cause that is close to Georgia's heart, as her mother died of cancer when Georgia was just 6-years-old. Her father also succumbed to the disease when she was 10.
Around 60 people, including Missy and Georgia's friends and relatives, packed Video Ezy in Wanganui for the occasion.
Georgia's hair has never been shorter than shoulder-length and the shock on her face as her long ponytail was cut and her head shaved was plain to see.
Georgia later said the hairstyle was taking some time to get used to, but her stepmum Desiree Sutherland said Georgia looked "awesome".
She said in just a few days Georgia and Missy's total fundraising had shot up from around $1000 to $3300. Their aim is $5000 and Mrs Sutherland said she was confident Georgia and Missy would get very close to that.
Donations are still being taken at Video Ezy or through www.shaveforacure.org.nz - search for "missy".
