Finance Minister Bill English chose to wear a golden tie with a purple paisley pattern for his Budget speech today.
A bold choice, which some may knock, but New Zealand mens' suiting expert, Murray Crane, told nzherald.co.nz that Mr English is on the money.
"Prints, in general, are very on-trend," said Crane, founder of Crane Brothers, menswear and tailors, with stores in Auckland, Wellington and Sydney.
"It is a nice way to brighten up an understated suit choice."
Paisley is a very old design, Crane explained, introduced to the French from India in the 17th century.
"It drops in and out of fashion every few years but always has its place in classic menswear.
"I think it's a fantastic tie choice."
