Emily Blunt is the new face of Yves Saint Laurent. Expect to see the English actress front for Opium perfume later this year in a campaign shot by Patrick Demarchelier. Fans of The Devil Wears Prada, in which Blunt played the sidelined secretary will remember her exasperation when newcomer Anne Hathaway had no idea who the "Patrick" ringing her magazine editor was. The stylish Blunt has since gone on to star in a number of movies, including Young Victoria. She says embodying a legendary fragrance which has stood the test of time without its allure being diminished is another exciting career experience.

Hot location

New Zealand is the backdrop for a new television commercial for Aveeno's latest skincare range, Smart Essentials, which features eco-activist model Summer Rayne Oakes. The American company, which claims sustainable values, chose our scenery for its diversity and beauty and for its environmentally friendly fit. Filming took place around Auckland, Hamilton and Queenstown. Smart Essentials is a simple regime designed for busy young women with stressed skin and includes a daytime moisturiser with sunscreen.

New look

Evolu has given its natural skincare a makeover, with smart new packaging that still reflects its botanical origins. Illustrator Bee Murphy, a New Zealander now based in Los Angeles, is behind the makeover campaign which goes more than skin deep, including refining formulas. A smart logo notebook is available as a gift with purchase until Christmas.

Artist calls

A leading Estee Lauder international makeup artist is coming to New Zealand next month and will be doing colour consultation makeovers at Smith & Caughey's Queen St store. Zohn Ho has worked alongside the company's creative makeup director, Tom Pecheux, on the global launch of the Pure Color Makeup collection and on fashion shows and magazine spreads. His goal is to teach women the best makeup and application techniques. He will be in store November 3-5, and consultations can be booked for a $60 fee redeemable on purchase. Ph (09) 916 0867 to book.

Minx nails not only support the pink ribbon campaign, they let you show your true colours in the fight to find a breast cancer cure with this design of the heat-set nail application. From each set $5 goes to the Breast Cancer Research Trust. Find Minx-A-Cure at selected nail bars, including Magic Tan & Beauty, Remuera, where a Minx application costs $65.

Botany beauty

M.A.C has opened its eighth New Zealand store in Botany Town Centre's upgraded Fountain Lane North precinct. The new store, which opened last Friday, is a chance to bring M.A.C to Aucklanders outside the city fringe, says the brand's general manager Oceania, Jodie Matthews.

Jo Malone's Pine & Eucalyptus candles are a festive favourite that sell out fast. Earlybird shoppers note, this season's batch has just come into the Britomart store with other enticing gift items.

Helping hand

West Auckland boutique salon Fusion is celebrating the opening of its new beauty room with a fundraising evening on Tuesday next week in which guests can enjoy skin and hair consultations and mini massages plus hear a guest speaker talk about reinventing your style. It promises to be fun night with artworks also on offer, but there is a serious side to the event. All proceeds from your $20 ticket, which includes a drink and nibbles, go to the Pohutukawa Clinic which helps adult victims of sex abuse. Fusion, at 21 Breenagh Place, Massey, ph 0508 342 538 offers salon and special occasion services including photography.

Price bleed

The price given in a previous Viva beauty page for the No Bleeding Lips liner was incorrect, it costs $29.99.

Win with Viva

One lucky reader will win two limited edition Juicy Couture perfumes featuring the Viva La Juicy fragrance in stunning gold surrounds. As well as a 100ml bottle of this decadent fruity perfume, the winner will also receive a stunning solid perfume necklace.

The total prize package is valued around $600, but has added appeal coming as it does with a designer bag not available for retail sale in New Zealand. The large velvet tote with Juicy Couture labelling is valued at US$248.

The gilded bottle, with a distressed metal effect not previously used on fragrance bottles, comes with a fuchsia-ribboned charm and retails here for $195. The beautifully boxed heart costs $99 and is destined to be a costume jewellery keepsake once the solid perfume is used up. Both are available now for a limited time from Farmers and selected department stores and pharmacies.

Viva La Juicy is a Top 10 prestige fragrance in the United States, despite having been launched only three years ago. It is made under licence by Elizabeth Arden, which has gifted the prize package to a lucky Viva reader. To be in to win, email your name, address and contact phone number to vipviva@nzherald.co.nz with "Juicy Couture" in the subject line. Entries close October 31. Winners announced November 2.
