First time entrants Bevan McConnochie and Frankie Manclark from M & M Master Butchers in Kapiti Rd are on "quite a buzz" after winning two gold medals at the Devro Great New Zealand Sausage Competition for their pork flavoured and cumberland sausages.
"It's like the butchers going to their own Olympics," Bevan said.
"With just fewer than 500 entries in 13 categories we came out winning two of those.
"They also picked six sausages they thought were best to be voted on for people's choice and while we didn't win it we had two sausages chosen which was still quite a big result for us."
Proving good for business they are now making over 300kg of the sausages each week, about five or six times more than they normally make.
"It's been quite a buzz," Frankie said.
"Overall our business has increased by about 15 per cent, not just for those flavours but everything."
With the amount of success from entering the competition the butchers say, "We will absolutely be entering next year."
