A new environmentally friendly business in Paraparaumu is offering free car washes this Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 9am to 5pm each day.
The Clean Kapiti, at 155 Rimu Rd in the Coastlands area, where a mini putt course used to be, will have extra staff onboard to help the large number of people expected.
"We want to invite everyone in Kapiti to come down and have a free car wash," enthused Duncan McEwan, who started The Clean franchise business in 2003.
Garry Leitch and Colleen Bax, who are operating the franchise's 13th site, were searching around for a new business to get involved with when they visited one of The Clean businesses.
"I thought 'this is amazing - we're going to have to do this'," Colleen said.
It has taken a year to get the self-service site ready for action.
"We're hoping people will try it and be as sold as we were."
"We also want to be able to show people how the car wash system works so they're comfortable when they come back," Garry said.
Duncan said the aim behind the business was to fill a demand in the market, especially from an eco-friendly way.
Cars washed at The Clean used about half the amount of water than washing a car at home, all the chemicals were eco-biodegradable, all waste commercially treated to avoid it going into waterways, a sump in each bay collected heavy materials, and liquids went through an interceptor trap.
The site even had low energy LED lighting and more.
"This whole site will cost about the same as a middle to large size house to run each month for power and it's a 24/7 operation.
"It's about being environmentally responsible."
The Hits radio team will be onsite Saturday 11am to 1pm. Free sausage sizzle.
