A series of troughs move up the country today, while an associated low pressure system deepens east of the South Island.The low system moves away to the east on Tuesday,leaving a strong and unsettled southwest flow over the country until Thursday,when another ridge spreads over New Zealand.

Monday: Southwest 15 knots, tending northwest 15 knots this morning, rising to 20 knots but 25 knots gusting 35 knots north of Cape Brett this afternoon, then becoming westerly 25 knots gusting 35 knots everywhere this evening. Sea becoming rough in the north this afternoon, and elsewhere this evening. Fair visibility in showers, then poor visibility in rain and possible thunderstorms from evening.
