There was plenty of ink on the cheque presented by Levin Bowling Club to Arohanui Hospice this week after an annual fundraiser.
After months of raffles, auctions and a fundraising tournament, that effort bore fruit when club members presented Arohanui Hospice director Angela Starr with a cheque for $8408.90.
Ms Starr said her organisation was grateful for the pledge and funds raised would go towards the new Horowhenua Centre set up in Levin last year.
The Levin centre was a place where members could spend the day away from home and were encouraged to "create a memory" with arts and crafts, while also allowing loved ones some respite, she said.
Ms Starr said last year the hospice had an operational cost of $2.28 million. That figure was climbing each year, which made the efforts of the Levin Bowling Club members increasingly important to the hospice.
Just over half of the annual operational cost was funded through MidCentral Health and Whanganui District Health Boards. The rest was through funds raised by hospice shops and donations, she said.
"Things like this are phenomenal for us. To have support from the community to raise funds on our behalf is amazing," she said.
