This home was once a small, run-down bungalow which languished on the market. But that was then.

Ray White agent Steve Koerber says the current owners have transformed 51 Bell Road, Remuera, Auckland, into a high end, modern home.

Everything is top quality and on trend, plus there are harbour views to Rangitoto and North Head.

"It was really quite derelict and these owners are used to living in beautiful homes and they moved in and set about improving it.

"It took them quite a while so over a period of a few years they've basically transformed it."

There is virtually nothing left of the old house, he says. " A few of the old walls are there but you wouldn't know it."

The house, which goes to auction on May 26, features four bedrooms, all with en suites, plus a study which could be a fifth bedroom.

There is new timber flooring, high studs, a high quality kitchen and appliances, plus a scullery.

There are huge windows and floor-to-ceiling sliding doors, and a grand entranceway with a mid-century feel.

The tiered concrete is cleverly lit with LED lighting underneath to guide the way, and there are vertical timber strips which separate the entry from the steps leading to the internal garage and the spacious downstairs.

Outside, there is an in-ground heated pool. The owners thought of everything, Steve says.

"It's got a water tank for the garden for if the water runs out.

"With this house you can chase the sun around all day, so you see the morning sun in the kitchen/family area and views of the harbour and Rangitoto.

"Then as the sun sets there's another courtyard that links to that area, so you can sit in the sun and have a barbecue there as well."

Because of the layout, the home is suited to a family with children aged seven or older, Steve says.

There are two bedrooms upstairs and another two (or three) downstairs along with a
"massive" rumpus room which is a great area for the children or teenagers.

"It's just an incredible space for them to have their own little world."

The pool is a large, almost square-shape which is heated for winter and positioned to get maximum sun.

The gardens are manicured and the owners were strategic with the placement of the tall hedging for privacy.

"It's like you're in your own little world — it's like a little estate."

The owners, who like the finer things in life, spared no expense, from the designer light fittings to the high quality drapes, Steve says.

"And they like their surroundings to be uncluttered and peaceful."

Steve questions why anyone would want go to the trouble of knocking down or doing up an old bungalow given the work and expense involved when this one is ready and waiting.

"I'm saying to the public 'just come and buy this, it's all done'. Don't put yourselves through that drama of having to do up a house.

"And it's getting more expensive so this is an easy solution — get in here and live and enjoy your life rather than having to do up houses."

The owners have created a modern sanctuary, plus the house is in a great location.

"It's a street that's just off Arney Rd, probably one of Auckland's most expensive streets.

"It's in amongst really good quality homes."

Newmarket is walkable and the city is as close.
