A mother with two wombs merged together into an extraordinary heart shape has defied doctors and given birth to miracle twins.
The babies were born in Bauman Hospital No 29 in the Russian capital city Moscow.
A photo taken by hospital staff just after childbirth shows the proud mum's unique heart-shaped wombs and her adorable twins, a boy and a girl.
The 39-year-old mother, whose name has not been revealed, was born with the rare anomaly and doctors told her that she would never be able to have children.
However, medics were as stunned as she was when they discovered that she was pregnant – with twins.
According to reports, two eggs (ova) had fertilised simultaneously in each of her wombs.
She had been receiving medical care at the hospital for several months prior to delivering the twins by C-section during the 38th week of pregnancy.
The mother knew about her anomaly but was astonished when she saw her heart-shaped womb afterwards.
Her son Yevgeniy reportedly weighed 3.3 kilogramme (7.3 lbs) and her daughter Varvara weighed 2.7 kilogramme (6 lbs).
According to local media, the extraordinary wombs were not damaged during the procedure and were put back in place without any problems.
A hospital spokesperson told local media: "The surgery was successfully completed and the mother will be able to give birth again."
Netizen 'Vera Solodova' said: "What an amazing story! I wish you all the happiness in the world!"
