Taradale winger Julie Ferguson scored 35 points as her unbeaten team posted another century in the Hawke's Bay/Manawatu women's rugby competition yesterday.
The 2004 and '05 Aotearoa Maori Hong Kong Sevens representative ran in three of her team's 18 tries and converted 10 of them in a 110-0 drubbing of Western Suburbs at Flaxmere's Ron Giorgi Park.
While the traffic was predominantly one-way Taradale coach Arthur Brown praised Suburbs for their never-say-die approach. His Suburbs' counterpart Raymond Rima was grateful to Brown who lent him three Taradale players as the hosts fronted with 12.
"One of them did such a good job we gave her our player-of-the-match," Rima said referring to Krystan Duffill who played at first five-eighth for Suburbs.
Ferguson was one of four players to grab hat-tricks for the visitors. Jamie Bruce, Moana Davis and Marise Te Hiko were the others. Along with Duffill, prop Diane Kiwara and hooker Annette Burgan, were the pick of the Suburbs players.
Clive's 41-7 win against Eskview at Farndon Park on Saturday was an ideal 21st present for subsitute winger Roxanne Niblett. However the score doesn't reflect Eskview's competitive effort as the visitors trailed 12-7 at halftime and it wasn't until that final quarter when the more experienced Clive players gained the upperhand.
Sarah Chalmers, Kirsty Huddleston and Michelle Wilson were a prominent trio for the winners. The Waru sisters, Karlee and Shaan, and fellow loosie Hannah Meyer along with lock Tineka Thompson and hooker Kirsty Dooney had huge workrates in the Esview pack while the Momoisea sisters, Theresa and Fai, were strong in the visiting backline.
Manawatu-based former Black Fern Rebecca Hull was outstanding for MAC in their 72-0 win against Hastings Rugby and Sports at Ron Giorgi Park on Saturday. Hull, who hopes to play first division rugby for the Hawke's Bay Tuis, impressed in general play and converted six of her team's 12 tries.
Flanker Patrice Marekura scored four of the hosts tries. Busy No 8 Sandra Oli, second five-eighth Sonee-Lee Collier and winger Kendra Karaitiana were other valuable contributors to the victory.
Fullback Urika Harmer and wingers Amber Grant and Renee Gillies were among Hastings' best players.
