Two Central Hawke's Bay trampoline enthusiasts have tumbled, twisted and piked their way to gold medals in Gisborne.
Amanda Aldridge, 16, of Pukehou, and Lisa McIvor, 14, of Waipukurau, collected three gold medals each at the three-day North Island Age-Group Championships at the weekend.
It was fruitful weekend for the Central Hawke's Bay Ricochet Trampoline Club whose seven members hauled in 13 medals - seven golds, two silvers and four bronzes.
Aldrige, McIvor and her younger sister, Megan, 11, also caught the eye of the Trampoline New Zealand Federation selectors who are seeking 30 open and age-group competitors for the World Championships in Holland in September.
The CHB club coach, Wayne Marsh, of Waipukurau, says the youngsters will be focusing on three apparatus of double-mini, tumbling and synchronised trampolining when they try to impress the selectors once more in Auckland in a fortnight.
Cherie Brightwell (1994) and brothers Simon and Keith Whelpton (1996), all of Waipawa, and Renee Baarspul, of Napier, have represented the the club in previous world champs.
"It's been a long time, so our youngsters will be eyeing a spot when they pick the team in the South Island too," he said.
Aldrige, a sixth former at Hastings Girls' High School, won gold in the double-mini category's junior international and 15-16 years women's divisions. Lisa McIvor, a fourth former at Central Hawke's Bay College, clinched golds in the 13-14 years women trampoline and double-mini divisions.
Aldrige and McIvor then in tandem claimed gold in the synchronised 15-16 years women division. Megan McIvor (tumbling 11-12 years women) and Tiffany Hain and Josie Te Rata (synchronised 13-14 years women) were other gold medallists.
