The Hawke's Bay under-15 team swept all before them at the annual Wanganui Cricket Festival, creating a little bit of history along the way.
The boys dominated all the opposition, restricting all to under one hundred in their four 30-over contests, before comfortably beating North Harbour in the final - played on the hallowed turf of Wanganui Collegiate's number one ground.
It marked the first occasion in the school's 154 year history when two visiting teams played each other on the famous paddock. Traditionally, anyone not playing the school's first XI gets shunted onto the secondary fields across the road.
In the final itself, Hawke's Bay made 164 for three with openers Ihaia West and Toby Doyle both having to retire, as is the custom at the tournament, once they'd reached 30. Ben Jackett also made an unbeaten 32.
Wanting to win, but also to extend their run of keeping teams under three figures, Hawke's Bay tore into the northerners, with Jackett, Adam Wouldes and Ben Wallace each taking two wickets. Come the 30th over, North Harbour were 99 for nine and each side had started to become well aware of the significance of the next run.
Enter Sam Macklow, who completed a neat run out, to dismiss Harbour for 99 and complete a wonderful week for Hawke's Bay.
Jackett was named player of the tournament, receiving a new bat and pads, while Wallace also received a set of pads as Hawke's Bay most improved player.
