A vasectomy caused frenzied bidding at the annual Property Brokers' charity auction at the Hawke's Bay Opera House last night.
Hawke's Bay Today advertising manager (and mother of four) Jo Dryden placed top bid for the gift she planned for her unsuspecting, baby-sitting partner at home. A snip at $320.
A disappointed vasectomy bidder caused considerable concern when she bid on the next offering - a circular saw "for the DIY".
The Hawke's Bay Cancer Society's Relay for Life benefited by about $25,000 from the many generous businesses and bidders at the fun evening where 43 lots were offered to the full house.
Cancer survivor Dot Oxley continued to provide. The 76-year-old has previously won a parachute leap off Te Mata Peak and a ride on a Harley Davidson.
Last night she won a tattoo, but would not declare where or what it would be.
"None of your business," she said.
"You can find out next year, it will be one of the prizes, a show and tell."
The Hawke's Bay Relay For Life starts at noon on February 26 at Clive's Farndon Park.
It is a team event for people of any age and level of fitness. Corporate groups, families, youth and service groups, community and sporting clubs participate every year.
