The Kitchen Table, Napier, is about to become world famous in New Zealand by appearing in TV3's popular food show, Cafe Secrets next Sunday.
Presented by food writer Julie Le Clerc, Cafe Secrets is an eight-part series that features some of the best cafes from all over the country andThe Kitchen Table, owned and operated by Cath Jeffares is featured in episode four. The cafe is located inside the Photographers Gallery Hawke's Bay in Tennyson St, belonging to her husband, local photographer, Shayne Jeffares.
A TV crew spent three days filming the episode in April. Cath showed Le Clerc the secrets behind one of the cafe's favourite dishes - sticky lemon curd brioche.
In return, Le Clerc made some of her own tantalising dishes.
The first day was spent filming a photography workshop for kids, something Shayne runs every school holidays.
In every episode, Cafe Secrets shows how each cafe has a special link to its local community and Le Clerc was excited to be taking part. She is an accomplished photographer and was keen to pass on some tips to the children.
Le Clerc also visited Orcona Chillis 'N Peppers where she interviewed owners Kevin Baker and Anne Prescott and picked some fresh capsicum and chillis for her recipes. The olive oil Le Clerc used throughout her cooking came from Matapiro Olives, Hastings.
"The Kitchen Table team are relatively new faces on the scene, they serve wonderful food and we're delighted to bring their story to the screen," said Kari Hall of KM Media, the production company behind the series.
While the crew were filming in Napier, they were grateful to receive the assistance of Quest, which provided accommodation and Apex Car Rentals, which provided transport.
