A Taradale resident's call to police after spotting four men on a neighbouring property yesterday led to a pursuit by car and on foot, and the eventual capture of the group.
Napier police law-enforcement team leader, Senior Sergeant Heath Jones, said the incident began about 2.30pm when a resident in Eton St saw a group of men, who they did not recognise, in a neighbouring section.
The person took the registration number of the car and called police. Checks revealed the car had been stolen from Gisborne.
Patrols went to the area and intercepted the car as it headed from Taradale toward Napier.
It was pursued into the Onekawa industrial area, where it stopped at the intersection of Carnegie Rd and Holden St. The four occupants ran off, but were quickly rounded up by officers. A check of the car revealed a television set, jewellery and other items.
Mr Jones said the group, two from Wairoa, one from Gisborne and one from Hastings were aged between 19 and 29. They were later charged with burglary and were scheduled to appear in the Napier District Court today.
Police praised the quick actions of the resident.
