A Hastings man has been arrested for his part in an alleged kidnap and rape in Auckland last Friday.
The man, 31, was located and arrested in Hastings on Tuesday and appeared in the Hastings District Court yesterday morning.
He is jointly accused of kidnapping and sexually attacking a 20-year-old woman in Auckland on Friday night.
Police said the woman willingly left the Globe Bar in central Auckland in a car with two men but was then allegedly abducted.
She managed to escape after the Hastings man was dropped off and the other alleged attacker fell asleep in the car. At 7am the next morning the woman drove the sleeping man to the Auckland Central police station.
Hastings police Detective Constable Tony Leppien said police made inquiries in Hastings after receiving information indicating the man was in this district. They arrested the suspect in a local house. He was found hiding under a bed.
Family members were present, and the man's partner coaxed him out from under the bed.
The accused man was remanded without plea on charges of sexual violation, assault with intent to sexually violate, abduction for sex and threatening to kill when he appeared in court yesterday.
He was remanded to reappear in Hastings District Court on March 2 and he was granted name suppression until then. The other man allegedly involved appeared in Auckland District Court on February 17 charged with sexual violation, further charges are expected to be laid.
