A 9-year-old girl struck by a car outside Havelock North Primary School yesterday has escaped with minor injuries.
The year 5 pupil received just scratches after she was hit outside the school about 8.30am.
Havelock North Community Constable Bruce Grimshaw said the girl - who had been taken to school by bus - had seen a friend across the road and had stepped onto Campbell Street in front of the stationary bus, where she was struck by an oncoming vehicle.
"It was just a total accident and we're thankful she wasn't seriously hurt," Mr Grimshaw said. "We always recommend that people never cross the road in front of parked buses."
