Hawke's Bay icecream lovers who missed out on free Jelly Tips in Tip Top's celebration of its 75th birthday yesterday are still being invited to the party, with an offer of an icecream factory tour and a year's free icecream (competition details and conditions of entry below).
In what has to be Hawke's Bay Today's biggest scoop of the year, the offer was made when I told Tip Top of the regionwide indignation about what seemed to be a bit of a local licker-ban.
To mark the birthday, Tip Top gave away 50,000 Jelly Tips in 75 minutes nationwide - but it was limited to Whangarei, Auckland, Hamilton, Tauranga, Palmerston North, Wellington, Nelson, Christchurch, Dunedin and ... Invercargill?
"Why not Hawke's Bay?" I asked, without having to explain the obvious - that there is eminently more need for icecream in sunny Hawke's Bay than there is in the frozen tips of the deep South.
"It's logistics," Tip Top spokeswoman Louise Wright said from Auckland, admitting she'd already had a Jelly Tip for morning smoko.
"As much as we would want to, we can't be everywhere," Ms Wright said. "But we're absolutely delighted with the support from Hawke's Bay.
"We're blown away."
The company decided to make amends by offering a competition for Hawke's Bay Today readers.
HOW TO ENTER:
Readers of Hawke's Bay Today can enter by emailing your favourite ``Tip Top Memory'', in 50 words or fewer, to competitions@hbtoday.co.nz
Use the words Tip Top Memory in the subject line and get your entry in by noon on Friday, February 18.
One lucky entrant will be selected to win a trip from Hawke's Bay to Auckland for a family of four, a VIP tour of Tip Top's Mount Wellington ice cream factory, and a year's supply of ice cream.
FULL TERMS AND CONDITIONS:
1. Instructions on how to enter and information on prizes form part of these Terms and Conditions.
2. Entry into this Promotion is deemed to be acceptance of these Terms and Conditions.
3. Entry is only open to residents of New Zealand, excluding employees of the Promoter, and their immediate families, its associated companies, its agencies and their associated companies, participating retailers and anyone else professionally connected with the Promotion.
4. The Promotion commences at 9am on Saturday, February 12 and closes at noon on Friday, February 18, 2011.
5. Prizes - there are:
a. Flights for a family of four return from Hawke's Bay to Auckland up to the value of $1000.
b. VIP Tour of the Tip Top factory in Mt Wellington, Auckland.
c. A year's supply of ice cream.
6. The Promoter reserves the right, in its absolute discretion, to verify the validity of all winners and entries and conduct security verification checks in relation to any winner. Winners may be required to sign a declaration confirming their eligibility to accept a prize.
Proof of winners' identity and age may also be required. If any prize winner is under 18 years of age the prize will be issued to their parent or guardian.
In the event of a dispute or need for clarification, the Promoter's decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
Should circumstances beyond the Promoter's control arise prizes may be altered. The Promoter accepts no responsibility for any variation of prize value. All dollar amounts stipulated are New Zealand dollars.
The Promoter (including its employees or agents, or any other person or party associated with this promotion) shall not be liable for any loss or damage whatsoever which is suffered (including but not limited to indirect or consequential loss or loss arising from negligence) or for any personal injury suffered or sustained, whether directly or indirectly in connection with either participation in the Promotion or as a consequence of the use and enjoyment of any prize.

If an entrant tampers with or subverts the processes relating to participation in the Promotion submits and entry other than in accordance with these terms and conditions, the Promoter reserves the right to exclude that person from participation and reserves its right to withhold any prizes from that person.
Promotional materials are void if stolen, forged, mutilated or tampered with in any way.
All entries become the property of the Promoter. Entry into the Promotion deems consent to use prize winners' names and photographs for any promotional purposes, including publishing the winners' names on Facebook, Twitter and/or www.tiptop.co.nz.
