A fight involving suspected gang members in Hastings has left one person with facial and head injuries.
Emergency services were called to the altercation on Cobham St, towards Bledisloe St, about 7.30pm last night.
It is understood about nine police cars swarmed the street and cordoned off the area.
A police spokeswoman said one man had been knocked unconscious in the fight, and ambulance were advised.
"There were reports of lots of yelling".
A witness at the scene said the stand-off had been going on for about five hours prior to emergency services arriving.
The witness saw people running up and down the street and believed sticks were being used as weapons.
A St Johns Ambulance spokeswoman declined to comment.
