A magnitude 4.5 earthquake in Hawke's Bay on Sunday night was widely felt in the region's two cities.
More than 1900 people reported feeling the quake, which struck at 10.32pm.
It was centred 25km south of Hastings at a shallow depth of 18km.
The quake caused moderate shaking, Geonet said. No damage was reported.
