A Napier woman who was president of several service organisations in the city has died, aged 84.
Carole Maxine Marsh served as office holder and president of Napier Pania Lions, Otatara Combined Probus Club and Napier 60s-Up in the 1980s and 90s.
She was also active in craft and floral art groups in Taradale.
She was a foundation member of Otatara Probus when it formed in 1978, and served as president from 2000 to 2001.
Marsh was also one of the last manual telephone exchange operators in the country, and was part of the final national Telecom team which oversaw the transition from manual operators to fully automated exchanges in 1987.
They were known as "The Toll Dolls".
She died on Tuesday at Nimon House, at the Mary Doyle complex in Havelock North, after a long struggle with dementia.
She is survived by two sons, four grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
Her funeral will be held at Howard and Gannon in Taradale on Saturday, 1pm.
