If you've got a spring in your step this morning, you are not the only one, with winter officially behind us, spring is finally here.
Today is looking fine and warm, says MetService Metrologist Andy Best, but unfortunately it will not last, with most of the first week of spring looking more like winter.
A north-westerly wind will cause a reprieve from the damp weather of the last weekend keep temperatures warm, with a high of 18C.
It will be a good day to get out a support the boys of Napier and Hastings Boys' High rugby teams, as they face each other, having the honour of being the first to play on the new turf at McLean Park.
If you were planning on supporting the Magpies for their first home game of the season tomorrow, however, make sure to wear a raincoat, as the fine weather is not hanging around.
"On Sunday, a few brief showers, partly cloudy," Best said.
Despite the rain and cloud, the wind is still coming from the north-west, meaning it will stay warm, with temperatures climbing to 20C.
Best says Monday will bring a cool, southerly change with it, bringing the temperature down to a high of 16C, and it will continue to drop as we head into Tuesday, with a high of 13C.
"It'll feel colder again on Tuesday," Best said.
Hawke's Bay is in good company, however, as the southerly change will bring cooler temperatures and rain to much of the country.
In the South Island, the southerly blast could bring snow down to 300m, which may make driving on the alpine passes hazardous.
Unlike the South Island, Hawke's Bay will not have to contend with snow, but Best said to be aware of frosts, as they can form with overnight temperatures as cool as 2 or 3C.
So make the most of the sunshine today, because for the rest of the week it's looking more like winter than spring.
