Hawke's Bay residents thinking of dipping into the sharemarket will be getting a bit of free advice next Friday, September 7 from Sharesies co-founder Sonya Williams.
In the space of one year, the Sharesies team attracted 20,000 investors to their low-cost investment platform.
Sharesies was launched in May last year with the bid to make share investing accessible to all with a minimum investment of $5.
Since then it has grown to have more than 22,000 investors with more than $23 million invested.
The business is continuing to grow at a fast pace and Williams will be detailing the start-up's journey into the sharemarket with people at Napier City Council's quarterly Business Breakfast on Friday, September 7.
"We believe everyone should have the opportunity to grow their wealth, whether they have $5 or $500,000 (to invest)," she said.
A spokesperson for NCC said those attending the breakfast talk could expect a "fast-paced" session that would provide transferable businesses tips.
"The company has built an online investment platform that makes it super-easy and accessible to trade on the share market.
"At the breakfast, Sonya will talk about how the company identified a gap in the market, assessed the risk and used the power of digital technology to launch a new business.
"Knowing your customers is something they've worked hard at and she advocates that you don't necessarily need a research budget.
"She will also share some simple low cost strategies that any business can use. Finally, she'll cover de-risking your business and how that's vital in today's business environment."
People wanting to attend the breakfast and talk at the Napier War Memorial Conference Centre need to book through the Napier City Council website www.napier.govt.nz#businessbreakfast, before Tuesday, September 4.
