A Hastings man has scooped $11,000 for his superb celebrity sleuthing on the Coast radio station's Coast Stars competition.
Local builder Brendon Ray was given the good news after ringing in to correctly identify the mystery stars in the station's long-running quiz.
After host Lorna Subritzky told him his guess of actor John Lithgow was correct, Ray said the big win came as a "shock".
"It didn't sink in for a while and I didn't quite know what to do - sit down or stay standing but I couldn't stay still really," he said.
"I was just in another world."
The father of two said he plans to spend the windfall on a "quad bike for the beach" and tickets to a Bob Dylan concert later this year. "I'm also going to splash out on a trip to Te Anau to visit the in-laws.
"Both my children's birthdays are next week so it's real good timing."
$500 was also earmarked for the Hastings SPCA, he said.
The 45-year-old said he started tuning into Coast a few years ago. "It's a great station and plays plenty of songs from the 70s and 80s. It's the era I grew up in so I like it."
Thousands of Coast listeners had been ringing daily for a chance to pick up the competition's big prize, which was sponsored by NZME's OneRoof.
The other three mystery stars that had be identified were Robin Williams, Mariah Carey and Jeff Golblum.
Coast can now be heard on 99.9FM in Hawke's Bay.
