Motorists travelling all the region's main highways over the following week are being urged to stick to temporary speed restrictions which have been set up.
They are also being advised that on State Highway 5 between Napier and Taupo between Eskdale and Tarawera, and SH50 between Omahu and Takapau there will be road-marking vehicles operating.
"Care is needed around the roadmarking vehicles as they are slow moving," An NZ Transport Agency spokesman said.

Older-generation speed cameras removed but still plenty of cameras
On SH2 north drainage work and surface repairs are being carried out at Putorino while contractors are undertaking surface water blasting at sites between Raupunga and Bay View on Tuesday.
Speed restrictions are in place and there are likely to be slight delays in travel time as stop-go signalling is also operating.
A stretch of SH2 near Nuhaka also has temporary speed restrictions where repair work is being carried out on the Tahaenui Bridge.
It has been reduced to one lane with traffic light controls in place.
On the southern stretch of SH2 around Peka Peka a seal widening programme is under way with speed restrictions and traffic signage.
Travel times were likely to be affected by up to five minutes.
A temporary 30km/h zone is in place on SH5 at Eskdale where culvert extension work is being carried out although impact on travel would be "negligible", the agency spokesman said.
