Fans and supporters of Hawke's Bay Miss Universe hope Harlem-Cruz Atarangi Ihaia are able to get in on the act with the official fan vote that has opened ahead of next week's crowning in Las Vegas.

The van vote launched yesterday, with promoters warning there was already a bogus vote site. The correct vote site is while voting can also be done on Twitter, using #MissUniverse and #Country — up to 10 votes can be made a day, and retweets count.

The Miss Universe pageant takes place at The AXIS at Planet Hollywood starting at 4pm Monday New Zealand time (7pm Sunday Pacific Standard Time).


The 19-year-old Napier kohanga reo teacher will be out to emulate the achievement of 1983 winner Lorraine Downes, the only New Zealander to win either the Miss Universe or Miss World crowns.

The Miss Universe pageant has 93 entrants who gathered from around the World last week, Miss Ihaia having been crowned Miss Universe New Zealand in Auckland in August.
