There are plenty of activities catering to all interests in Hawke's Bay this weekend. Here we list seven of the best on offer.
1. Tremains Pink Walk
The annual Tremains Breast Cancer Fun Walk is organised every year as part of Breast Cancer Action Month. This is your chance to dress up as pink as possible and celebrate the cause. It is an easy 5km fun walk around the town with a $5 registration. There will be plenty of entertainment hosted by The Hits including local bands, face painting and a Zumba warm up. All ages and genders are welcome and all money raised goes directly to the Hawke's Bay Breast Cancer Trust. The event kicks off at the Napier Soundshell at 11am Sunday. 2. The Joint is Jumping
This Saturday the doors will open at The Old Mill in Napier to all who are seeking a night of fun. This five piece band combines classic 40s, 50s and true rock 'n' roll tunes to help you jump and jive. Marty Forrer's band will set you on your toes for the best night of dancing you would have had in a long time. The Basement room of the Old Mill is a hidden treasure, usually reserved for weddings, so drop into the coolest venue for a night of fabulous live music! Door sales only, doors open at 7.40pm.
3. Donovan Bixley Instore
The creative genius that is Donovan Bixley is coming to Wardini Books Napier to celebrate National Bookshop Day and celebrate local bookshops. He is set to draw anything you like just for fun and will be signing his fabulous books such as The Looky Book and the fabulous Flying Furballs series. Charity Norman will also be in store to talk about See You in September. This free, all ages event will run from 10am to 3pm at Wardini Books in Napier on Saturday.
4. Le Voyage
With only two performances Le Voyage is an event not to be missed. Come and share the Magic of Dance with Le Voyage showcasing the talents of the students from Prestige Dance Studio under the direction of principal Belinda Harvey. Students will perform a variety of dances including ballet, jazz, tap, hip hop and lyrical. The shows will both run on Saturday, the first 1pm-3.30pm and the second 6pm-8.30pm, at the Napier Municipal Theatre. This is an all ages event and tickets, $24.50 for an adult and $14 for a child, can be purchased by calling 0800 TICKETEK.
5. De-Stash and Re-Stash
This weekend Creative Arts Napier is hosting a pre-loved arts and craft supplies swap shop. This is your chance to re-use or re-cycle art and craft supplies, have a clear-out or come and buy more treasure. It costs $15 per sales area and spaces are limited. The swap shop will be running from 11am to 3pm on both Saturday and Sunday at the Community Arts Centre on Byron St in Napier. This is open to all ages and admission is free.
6. Shed 2 Triathlon & Duathlon
The Shed 2 Summer Triathlon & Duathlon series is what it is all about this summer. There are six events that each hold three different races with different options that suit everyone from absolute beginners to the seasoned athletes. There will also be a newly-introduced kids Aquathlon involving a 100m swim followed by a 1km run for the 7-9 year olds and a 200m swim followed by a 2km run for the 10-12-year-olds. The races will kick off at 9.15am on Sunday at Pandora Pond.
7. Napier Urban Farmers' Market
This Saturday staple event is a great chance for you to get down to Clive Square to peruse and purchase fresh regional produce. Walk down Emerson St and end up in a perfect little market offering a true Hawke's Bay experience. Shop local and enjoy some of the best produce from around Hawke's Bay available right in the centre of Napier City. This market is open from 9am to 1pm.
