Roading work crews across Hawke's Bay will be back on the job today after a holiday weekend break to allow expected heavier traffic to flow more freely.
A string of roading maintenance programmes, mainly on sites across the northern stretch of SH2 between Napier and Wairoa were put on hold for the long weekend but had resumed today, a New Zealand Transport Agency spokesman said.
Roadwatch crews had, however, been travelling the region's highways over the weekend keeping an eye on conditions, although the weather had played ball despite forecasts of more rain than what eventually arrived.
There are likely to be up to five minute delays in travel time due to surface water blasting work at sites between Tutira and Wairoa, drainage maintenance between Tutira and Putorino and seal widening near Whirinaki.
Delays are also expected at Ohinepaka where bridge repairs are being carried out.
While speed restrictions are in place at two of the major roading upgrades under way in the region, at the SH2/Watchman Rd roundabout and the Whakatu arterial roundabout, delays would be "negligible" an NZTA spokesman said.
There are no significant works being carried out on SH5 between Napier and Taupo or on SH2 south between Hastings and Dannevirke.
